AAbout Song of the Year
Song of the Year is an international contest encouraging the art and discipline of songwriting. Our primary focus is to find great songwriters while helping them network with professionals in the music industry. For over ten years, Song of the Year has continued to be a leader in offering songwriters great opportunities through the contest and by networking the top writers with music insiders. Songwriter's submissions are judged by a panel of music professionals. The preliminary-judging staff consists of individuals who have showed leadership in music related fields as well as notable songwriters.
The winners will be determined by an elite-panel of judges. We will select one winner and four finalists from each of the ten categories (50 songs total). Those songs are sent out to major/minor labels, publishers, entertainment attorneys, music managers, and many other outlets who we have relationships with. These are resources who have agreed to listen to our top songwriters. The winners'/finalists' information will be distributed accordingly. Should there be further interest in your material, our resources will contact you directly (all offers, deals, and other agreements are conducted directly between the songwriter and the interested organization). All entries submitted into the contest will remain 100% the ownership of the songwriters. The winners also compete for cash and prizes. In 2010, the Song of the Year prize packages are bigger than any previous year's competition. For more specific answers to your questions, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions section.
What's New In 2010
Over the last ten years, Song of the Year has offered monthly rounds throughout the year. The monthly winners from each month would then compete against the other monthly winners to determine the top songs for the year. Unfortunately the "yearly" winners would not be determined until the following year. In 2010, we have changed this by offering one contest that was opened until May 5th, 2010. There were no monthly rounds. No more waiting for an entire year to find the yearly results! The results from the 2010 songwriting contest have been announced.
The winner of the 2010 contest will be the "yearly" winner and be awarded the yearly prizes listed here. We have continued to offer the ten categories so that everyone has a category that best fits their songwriting style. The ten categories are: Pop, Country, Lyric Only, Rock, Instrumental, Hip-Hop, Christian, Adult Contemporary, Folk, and Dance/Electronic.
