Silent Space

Verse 1

The painters say "the empty" has a shape of its own
That the space around the figure is what keeps it in place
Yet I kept brushing you in with hues, tints and tones
Tried to define who you were but you gave me that space

Verse 2

The poets say "the pause" speaks louder than words
That the space in-between allows the story to tell itself
Yet I kept filling the void with prolixity to the absurd
Not realizing the poem was written for somebody else

Chorus

Outside the outline of the given
Beyond the path no one takes
You were a hidden imperfection
Inside the shape your absence makes

Never saw your edges against the air
You were in the peripheral, not in the stare
I only sought passion but not for it's grace
And lost you in that silent space

Verse 3

The musicians say "the silence" is a breath for each note
That any crescendo's birth begins at the hushed decline
Yet I kept performing you songs, That I never wrote
Frenzied paced cacophony of sounds that beat out of time

Repeat Chorus

Bridge

I used to think that love was something given
A hand, a word, a door that opens wide
But you were proof that love can be living
Among the silence left by everything inside

Repeat Chorus

Outro
The birds go quiet right before the storm
The lights turn gold before they disappear
I painted you the way I wanted you to be
But looking back at it now, you were never there
