Song of the Year is excited to share a few of the success stories from some of the contestants in the songwriting contest. 

Featured Success Story - SARAH MILES

Sarah Miles from Atlanta Georgia has an impressive array of songwriting talent. Her writing styles include everything from Country, Pop, Hip-Hop, and Electronic music. Sarah was a "Finalist" in the Song of the Year songwriting competition in the February 2007 round. After sending her material to the Song of the Year resources, she received interest from a number of publishers. Sarah has since found management and is in the process of writing for some of the biggest names in the music industry. She currently has a song "on hold" for Tim Mcgraw and is working on some new material for artists with Geffen Records.

Latino Saint was the "2nd Place Yearly Winner" in the 2004 contest. Since then, Latino Saint has signed a digital distribution deal with "Experimental Division Nashville". In 2005 Latino Saint performed with acts such as Fat Joe, Dem Franchise Boyz, and Back Wudz.

Chris Sernel's band "Escape From Earth" was the "a past monthly rock winner" in the Song of the Year contest. The band has been featured in a commercial that aired on MTV during primetime 10-spot programming throughout the month of October 2005. In addition, they have had a full-page feature of the band in the December/January issue of Teen People magazine. Be sure to check out their new album titled "Who Do I Have To Kill".

Jenna Drey

Song of the Year's Electronic Winner and Pop Finalist Jenna Drey has had the privilege to work with one of the world's most acclaimed producers, Nile Rodgers. Nile has produced artists such as Madonna, David Bowie, and Duran Duran to name a few. Jenna Drey is sure to join these elite artists with her passionate writing ability and incredible vocal talent. Jenna's song "Killing Me" (a past monthly electronic winner in the Song of the Year competition" hit #11 on the billboard dance charts. Jenna was awarded Song of the Year's "Most Prolific Songwriting Award" in 2004.

BandCamp

January's 2004 rock winners "Band Camp" own the monthly round. They later won the Song of the Year "yearly" competition. Lead by singer Mathew Bair, they were awarded $5,000 from Song of the Year for their song "Celebrity" They have now signed a deal with  E.V.L.A/Atlantic Recording Group. The band has been touring extensively this year.





Kristy Kay
Kristy Kay picture Nashville's Kristy Kay was the Pop Winner in a monthly round of the Song of the Year contest.  In 2005,  Kristy hit the charts working with renowned producer/remixer Lenny Bertoldo. One of her releases was named "Top Song for 2005" by XM Radio. The song can be found on Radikal Records. She can be heard on many popular commercials, featured films, and even a video game project.  Kristy is currently in the studio finishing her new record.



Dhani Marshall

Dhani Marshall picture A past monthly winner in the Song of the Year songwriting competition in the Rock Category, " Dhani Marshall has signed a distribution deal with Universal Music, who will distribute his new EP "Dandelion". Dhani has signed a licensing deal with MTV Networks as well as signing with Cherry Lane Publishing who handles some of the biggest names in the industry.



OTHER SUCCESS STORIES

After Laura Gosa's $39 dollar investment for a song submission and a Song of the Year critique, Laura grabbed the attention of R.C. Mead from Song Stop. Mr. Mead was impressed with Laura's song 'Don't pass me by' and will be offering her a spec deal on a 5 song EP. 

Brazilian songwriter Larissa Liles' song 'Sun Dry' caught the attention of one of the professionals conducting the Song of the Year's critiques. 'Sun Dry' was forwarded on to his resources and will be recorded on an Indie label who is promoting a new artist.

Germany based band ATUT was brought to the United States by The Frontline Entertainment Group to work on a spec deal. ATUT was discovered after catching the ears of one of our monthly judges Thomas Savoy. Thomas was impressed with their material and presented it to Frontline A&R.

After submitting a "Lyric Only" submission into the Song of the Year contest she placed in the monthly round. Since then, Natasha Miller has accumulated numerous sponsors and has recently received financing for a big budget video. Natasha claims she wouldn't be achieving so much without her "triumph at Song of the Year". We wish her the best of luck!

Amber Brooke's submission 'Confinement' and Elaine K's 'You should have known' has gained the interest of a few individuals that place music on television shows. They will be considering these tracks for possible placement.

James Day, Steven Stewart, and Jim Gately 's 'Already Broken' is being considered by a contestant on USA Network's Nashville Star for an upcoming album release. 

Emily Newman's lyric submission has gained interest from Shane Boullion of Day Spring Cards. Day Spring is an affiliate of Hallmark. Shane has signed a contract with Emily to include her submission and additional material into the Day Spring catalog .

Kim Jong from Tokyo, Japan (March's Finalist) received a one song publishing deal from a leading Asian publisher.

Myk Sapp from Chicago, Illinois has found national wide booking and management from the Song of the Year critique staff. After a song critique on Myk's song "Down and Above", Erin Foster from Song Stop contacted a nation wide management company and presented Myk's dvd to them. They loved it and will be working with Myk and his band.

Kimberly Guerra's "My Four Walls" was a past finalists in the Folk Category. After Song of the Year sent out her song to the Song of the Year resources, she now has an independent record label interested in signing her.

Many of the winners, finalists, suggested artists, runner ups, and honorable mention songwriters have been able to take advantage of their placement in the Song of the Year contest. They have been on their local television news, newspapers, and other publications by promoting their placement in the contest. Many of the artists have also gained radio play as well as adding credibility to their music bios through self-promotion of their Song of the Year placement.
